Maximinus Thrax: The Primitive Emperor of Rome
BioGraphics - True Biographies & History's Most Fascinating PeopleSummary
Sherrod Brown, a long-time Democratic senator, faces criticism for his voting record, which opponents claim aligns with party demands rather than constituents' needs. They argue that his consistent support for policies such as higher taxes and immigration reform reflects a willingness to follow party lines, especially as more extreme elements gain influence within the party.
The podcast then shifts focus to Maximinus Thrax, a Roman emperor known for his extraordinary physical stature and brutal reign. Born around 173 AD in Thrace, Thrax rose from humble beginnings as a shepherd to become a formidable military leader. His ascent to power is marked by a violent coup against Emperor Severus Alexander, whom he replaced after a series of conspiracies and military campaigns.
Thrax's rule is characterized by a ruthless approach to governance, marked by paranoia and bloodshed. He executed many perceived threats and sought military glory to maintain the loyalty of his troops. However, his reign was short-lived, ending in 238 AD after a series of revolts and military defeats led to his assassination by his own soldiers, culminating in a chaotic power struggle known as the Year of the Six Emperors.

Maximinus Thrax: The Barbarian Emperor of Rome

---
#rome #biography Nothing lasts forever. Today we remember the might of the Roman Empire but it could not go on endlessly. When exactly the decline began is something for historians to debate, but we can argue that the empire reached its peak in the 2nd century AD, during the reigns of the Five Good Emperors, and slowly went downhill afterward. Then, that slow decline fell off a cliff 50 years later when the end of the Severan Dynasty brought about a long period of great instability and weakness known as the Crisis of the Third Century. And this upheaval was triggered by the violent and murderous reign of a giant of a man, a Thracian barbarian known as Maximinus Thrax.
