Kelly Keagy from Night Ranger talks "Sister Christian" and "Best Of"

The Jeremy White Show welcomes Kelly Keagy from Night Ranger!

Jeremy White interviewed Kelly from Night Ranger to discuss their new album "Best Of," which features remixed and remastered versions of classic hits alongside newer tracks from their time with Frontiers Music. Kelly explained how they approached re-recording songs like "Sister Christian" by using alternate takes and modern production techniques to create a sound that better represents how they perform the songs live today. They discussed the challenges of recording contracts from the 1980s, particularly how publishing rights were signed away to major labels like MCA, limiting their ability to use classic songs in commercial campaigns. Kelly shared insights about the band's evolution from a live-focused rock act to dealing with label pressure to record power ballads, which affected their creative direction. The conversation also covered Kelly's unique drum setup with two floor toms positioned to the left, which was inspired by a previous tour with Sammy Hagar where space was limited on stage.
