Old Time Radio Classics

Show Notes

Screen Directors Playhouse presents “Spiral Staircase,” episode 44, originally broadcast on November 25, 1949. This NBC adaptation is introduced by guest screen director Robert Siodmak, who directed the 1946 film version.

Dorothy McGuire reprises her film role as Helen, a mute young woman caught in mounting danger after a murder unsettles a small New England village. As a storm gathers around the shadowy mansion where she works, tension rises in this suspenseful adaptation of The Spiral Staircase, drawn from Ethel Lina White’s novel Some Must Watch.

Old Time Radio Classics presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
