CBS Radio Workshop, episode 44, “The King of the Cats,” originally broadcast on CBS on November 25, 1956. Adapted from Stephen Vincent Benét’s fantastical short story, this production was directed and produced by William N. Robson and stars Byron Kane as Tommy Culverin.
Tommy, a young office worker and committed cat hater, recalls his unsettling courtship of the enigmatic Princess Vivranka amid New York’s concert halls, drawing rooms, and society gatherings. When a celebrated European conductor named Tibault enters their circle, small feline details begin to give the fashionable scene an increasingly uncanny air. Jeanette Nolan, Joseph Kearns, and Peggy Webber are among the supporting cast.
Old Time Sci-Fi Radio presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
