Sandra Birchmore’s Case Involves THREE Officers — Why Is the Coverup STILL Happening?

Sarah Sproul had an affair with Matthew Farwell while she was friends with his wife. She testified that at parties, with his wife in the room, he'd come around a corner to kiss her. He never wore a mask or told her to delete a text. Two more women said the same, after the defense had told the jury that the mask Farwell wore into Sandra Birchmore's building was what people having affairs do. Prosecutors say the secret with Sandra was more than an affair. The father of her baby, Jason Pickard, testified under immunity that she told him it began when she was 13 or 14. Her friend Sarah Odams testified Sandra said Farwell grabbed her phone, screamed in her face, and told her he hoped she'd die or kill herself. Odams's last message to Sandra, at 9:37 on the night of February 1, 2021, was never answered. For more than three years, the official word was that Sandra Birchmore took her own life. Former prosecutor Eric Faddis joins me to go through the five strongest signs, all from sworn testimony, that the people investigating her death protected one of their own. The parking lot comes first. Trooper Matthew Dunne testified he and his sergeant interviewed Farwell outside an elementary school. Then the phone. Examiner Nicholas Guarino testified Sandra's laptop password was built from Farwell's name, and that he still handed Farwell's phone back after finding no messages. The FBI says a Stoughton employee told Farwell about a friend's call reporting the relationship 12 days before Sandra died. Sandra Birchmore's death was ruled a suicide for more than three years. Former prosecutor Eric Faddis joins me to break down why federal prosecutors now say it was murder, and the hurdles Matthew Farwell's defense faces at trial. Prosecutors say Farwell's DNA is on the strap found around Sandra's neck. His lawyers have pointed to testing that found a mixture of at least four people's DNA on it. Eric explains how a jury weighs that fight. Then the clock. The government says Farwell was inside Sandra's Canton building for 29 minutes on February 1, 2021, wearing a mask, and that her phone went still while he was there. Prosecutors say she spent that day texting people about her baby. Farwell's team says he came to end things. Eric tells me whether that story survives the evidence. On Homicide Happy Hour, former thirty-year pastor Timmy Gibson looked into the camera and called JP Miller a cult leader. He confirmed the label with psychotherapist Shavaun Scott before the recording. Gibson says Miller's sermons weren't teaching. They were allegedly gaslighting. He quotes Miller telling his congregation that wives who don't satisfy their husbands will be replaced by the devil's twenty waiting women. Miller has been charged federally — cyberstalking and false statements. He maintains his innocence with a not-guilty plea. Mica Miller died in April 2024 at Lumber River State Park. Her death was ruled a suicide. Miller has not been charged in her death. Gibson says Miller is still allegedly preaching to roughly fifteen people who don't know what they're in. Sandra Birchmore’s police chief refused to destroy an investigation into the officers — and paid for it. Chief Donna McNamara allegedly opened a second probe into the Stoughton department and says Town Manager Robin Calter demanded the report be destroyed. McNamara refused. She is now on administrative leave. The officers whose conduct she exposed are the reason her department is under scrutiny. Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott examines what this tells a clinician about how institutions behave when someone inside breaks ranks. McNamara was the department’s first female officer and its first female chief. The second investigation reportedly uncovered details about another unnamed former employee. Someone inside the department allegedly tipped Farwell about a phone call concerning him.
