bioAffinity Technologies expands Lung diagnostics pipeline into COPD and Asthma

Proactive - Interviews for investors

Summary

BioAffinity Technologies reports significant growth, achieving a 200% increase in revenue year-over-year in the second quarter. The company focuses on developing a non-invasive platform technology for detecting lung diseases, particularly lung cancer, at its earliest stages. This innovative approach utilizes a sputum sample collected at home, analyzed through flow cytometry and an AI algorithm, allowing for quick and accurate cancer detection.

The technology not only aids in identifying lung cancer but also provides reassurance for patients with benign lung nodules, reducing the need for invasive procedures. BioAffinity is expanding its applications to include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, aiming to personalize treatment through precision medicine. The market potential is substantial, with estimates of $5 billion for lung cancer and over $26 billion for COPD and asthma.

Looking ahead, BioAffinity is focused on increasing awareness among physicians and expanding its partnerships, including collaborations with AV Medical and PICTOR. These partnerships are expected to enhance the company's capabilities in both lung cancer detection and the treatment of respiratory diseases, positioning BioAffinity for continued growth in the healthcare market.

Show Notes

bioAffinity Technologies CEO Maria Zennes joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss the company's noninvasive lung cancer detection technology, reported 200% year-over-year growth in the second quarter, insurance reimbursement and plans to expand its diagnostic platform into chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma.

Zannes explained that bioAffinity Technologies has developed a diagnostic platform designed to analyse the lung microenvironment and identify signs of disease. Its initial commercial application focuses on lung cancer through a noninvasive test that uses sputum samples collected by patients at home.

The samples are analysed using flow cytometry and an artificial intelligence-based algorithm to help determine whether lung cancer is present.

The test is prescribed by physicians for patients who may have suspicious lung nodules. According to Zannes, the technology can provide additional information to help physicians assess patients and make decisions about further diagnostic procedures or continued monitoring.

On the commercial side, Zannes reported 200% year-over-year growth in the second quarter and said the company was also experiencing year-over-year growth in the third quarter. She highlighted Medicare reimbursement and coverage by most private insurers as important factors supporting the adoption of its diagnostic technology.

The company is also exploring opportunities to expand the platform beyond lung cancer. Its development plans include applications in COPD and asthma, where the technology could support precision medicine by helping physicians better characterize lung inflammation and identify patients who may benefit from specific treatments.

She also discussed collaborations with AB Medical, which has distribution connections in the Veterans Administration market, and Pictor, a technology partner supporting the development of additional diagnostic capabilities. The Pictor collaboration is expected to contribute molecular and proteomic analysis alongside bioAffinity's existing flow cytometry platform.
