The Calgary Flames prepare to host the Seattle Kraken on September 21, 2026, with nine centers competing for roster spots. Simon Nemec’s new five-year contract anchors the defense, while Dustin Wolf remains the starter.

This preview analyzes the matchup angles against Seattle’s physical forecheck, evaluating Mikael Backlund, Morgan Frost, and Connor Zary’s paths to the lineup. We discuss the loss of Blake Coleman and Olli Maatta to the Wild, and how Joel Farabee and Jonathan Huberdeau will drive offense.

Key topics include zone entry strategies for Simon Nemec, power play identity post-trade, and predictions for the Flames’ 90-point season. We also assess Devin Cooley’s role as backup to Wolf.
