Show Notes

Yesterday in Sports recaps a dramatic Tuesday across the World Series, NFL, NBA, NHL, English soccer and tennis, beginning with Tampa Bay extending the Fall Classic in extra innings.

Chris Horwedel breaks down the Rays’ 12-inning win over Milwaukee in Game 4, which prevented a World Series sweep and cut the Brewers’ series lead to 3-1. Milwaukee came within three outs of its first championship before Tampa Bay rallied in the bottom of the 12th and forced another game.

The biggest NFL move comes from Seattle, where the Seahawks acquire eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson from Indianapolis for two draft picks. The win-now trade strengthens a Seattle team coming off a dominant victory over Kansas City, while the rebuilding Colts turn an expiring contract into future assets.

In the NBA, Jayson Tatum scores 40 and beats Brooklyn at the overtime buzzer, while Victor Wembanyama helps San Antonio roll, Luka Dončić scores 41 in a Lakers loss and New York avoids an 0-4 start. Minnesota also receives potentially major news with reports that Anthony Edwards could miss up to two months following knee surgery.

The NHL delivers one of the season’s wildest comebacks as Vancouver erases a three-goal deficit late and beats Anaheim in overtime, ending a 10-game losing streak. Connor Hellebuyck also wins his New Jersey debut following his blockbuster trade from Winnipeg.

In England, fourth-tier Fleetwood Town eliminates Premier League champion Arsenal from the League Cup, while pressure continues to build around Manchester United manager Michael Carrick. The episode closes with tennis history as three-time major champion Stan Wawrinka retires at age 41 after a 24-year professional career. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
