Former Pastor Knew Ted Haggard and Recognized Caleb Flynn Immediately

Timmy Gibson went to breakfast with Ted Haggard multiple times. He was a fellow pastor in the evangelical world, close enough to see the charm and sense something underneath it. Years later, when the Caleb Flynn case broke, Gibson saw the same architecture. Flynn led worship in Tipp City, Ohio, while maintaining a relationship with a fellow team member and texting her over a hundred thousand times. He was convicted on all nine counts in Ashley Flynn's murder and sentenced to life without parole. Gibson pastored for three decades before leaving the faith entirely. On Homicide Happy Hour, he explained why worship team affairs are, in his words, super common. He said the system demands hiding. Flynn couldn't be honest either. And Gibson believes Flynn's tears at church weren't guilt. They were the false humility that sin creates inside a system built to reward brokenness. What really happened to Sandra Birchmore inside the Stoughton Police Department spans more than a decade, involves three officers, and according to the department’s own former chief — the coverup is still underway. Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott, author of Nightbird, examines every layer of the case in a comprehensive four-part interview. Sandra entered a police youth program as a grieving child. The officers who ran it allegedly spent years targeting her. Matthew Farwell allegedly killed her the night before his wife’s delivery. His twin brother allegedly participated knowing Sandra was pregnant. Robert Devine ran the program and attacked Sandra’s credibility after her death. Chief Donna McNamara opened a second investigation and says she was told to destroy the report. She is now on leave. Scott traces the psychological thread from what was done to Sandra’s mind through the officers who did it to the institution that is allegedly still protecting them. JP Miller went from leading Solid Rock Church in Myrtle Beach to allegedly preaching to roughly fifteen people. On Homicide Happy Hour, former thirty-year pastor Timmy Gibson said those fifteen people are in a cult and don't know it. He confirmed that assessment with psychotherapist Shavaun Scott. Gibson recognized Miller's sermons immediately. He quotes Miller allegedly preaching that wives who fail to satisfy their husbands will find the devil sending twenty replacements. Miller stands charged federally — cyberstalking and making false statements. He has maintained his innocence. Mica Miller's death in April 2024 was ruled a suicide. Miller faces no charges in connection with her death. Gibson called Miller a very dangerous person and said he would not be surprised if Miller escalated, given enough time and isolation. Alex Murdaugh was back in a South Carolina courtroom in a suit and tie on October 16, getting ready for his double murder retrial. Former prosecutor Eric Faddis joins me to go through what Judge Debra McCaslin decided. The defense can test unidentified DNA from Maggie Murdaugh's fingernails and phone, over the state's objection that it could use up the samples. The state has to turn over original crime-scene scan data. The defense doesn't get ballistics records from unrelated shootings. McCaslin also put on the record that Murdaugh failed a polygraph about hiding financial records, after his lawyer had claimed he passed one. Prosecutors won't say whether a grand jury is examining a police officer friend of Murdaugh's. Eric explains what each ruling means for the April 5 trial. Stoughton’s first female police chief exposed the officers involved with Sandra Birchmore. She is now on administrative leave. Chief Donna McNamara allegedly opened a second investigation and says Town Manager Robin Calter told her to destroy the report. McNamara refused. Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott examines what drives an institution to retaliate against the person who exposed its own misconduct. The second investigation reportedly uncovered information about another unnamed former employee — suggesting the problem inside the department may extend beyond the officers already identified. Someone inside the station allegedly warned Matthew Farwell that a phone call had come in about him. Scott, author of Nightbird, confronts the question of how deep the coverup runs and what it means for the case when the person who tried to clean house is the one removed from it. The woman who spoke up is off the job. The department that allowed it carries on. Listen Anywhere You Get Podcasts: https://pod.link/1655749292 Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Barry Morphew was charged with murder in 2021. The case was dismissed in 2022 — nine days before trial. In 2023, investigators found Suzanne Morphew’s remains. In 2025, a grand jury indicted him again. In 2026, his bond was set at ten million dollars. This three-part documentary covers every stage. Part one examines the marriage Suzanne described to her sister, her closest friend, and a man named Jeff Libler — and the recording pen she hid in her own home. Part two traces the digital trail investigators pulled from Barry’s phone and truck, the five disposal stops on his Mother’s Day work trip, and the prosecution’s self-inflicted collapse. Part three follows the discovery of Suzanne’s body, the wildlife tranquilizer confirmed in her bones, Barry’s arrest under an alias in Arizona, and the renewed case now headed to trial. Barry Morphew has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder after deliberation. Trial is July 2027.
