Show Notes
Gunsmoke presents “Cooter,” episode 471, originally broadcast on CBS on April 16, 1961. This late-run airing reuses John Meston’s earlier Gunsmoke radio script, first heard in 1954, with William Conrad as Marshal Matt Dillon.
Back in Dodge City, Dillon investigates trouble connected to crooked gambler Ben Sissle and finds Cooter Smith drawn into the growing pressure around Sissle’s operation. Frank Cady is among the featured cast in this tense Long Branch–centered drama.
Gunsmoke presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
