Show Notes
This week I’m turning the mic on Gillian to interview her about her journey to becoming a yoga teacher and her experience of how diet culture intersects with yoga culture.
Gillian explains how western yoga culture has become heavily interlinked with healthism, diet culture, and the beauty ideal which has an impact on how it is represented and who can access it.
The version of yoga we’re sold has so many barriers to entry through lack of representation to teachers ill-equipped to hold space for those in marginalized bodies.
Join us for this conversation to understand more about how we can change our idea of what a yoga body really is.
Topics covered:
Movement
Connection with our bodies
Accessing yoga spaces in a larger body
Diet & beauty culture in yoga spaces
Orthorexia/food restriction & obsession
‘Clean eating’ culture
Western yoga culture
Systemic oppression
