The Origins of Modern Witchcraft

In this episode of The Demonologist Podcast, Adam Blai dives into the complex history of Wicca, tracing its journey from early 20th-century folklore theories to the modern spiritual movement it is today. The exploration begins with Egyptologist Margaret Murray and her influential 1929 "witch-cult" theory, which radically altered public perception by claiming a pre-Christian pagan religion had survived in secret for centuries. This theory heavily inspired Gerald Gardner, the recognized pioneer of modern Wicca, who blended Murray's folklore concepts with elements of ceremonial magic and esoteric traditions to structure the movement.
