On this episode of Gary Talks Physical Media, I'm sinking my teeth into one of the most memorable vampire movies of the 1990s: INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE (1994), starring Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Kirsten Dunst, Antonio Banderas, and Christian Slater!
I'm revisiting director Neil Jordan's lavish adaptation of Anne Rice's bestselling novel and taking a look at the gorgeous new 4K Ultra HD SteelBook release from Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment!
Long before vampires dominated pop culture through Twilight and The Vampire Diaries, INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE offered a darker, more sophisticated exploration of immortality, loneliness, obsession, and the terrible price of eternal life.
Set against the atmospheric backdrop of 18th-century New Orleans, the film follows Louis de Pointe du Lac (Brad Pitt), a grieving plantation owner who is transformed into a vampire by the charismatic and ruthless Lestat de Lioncourt (Tom Cruise).
As Louis struggles with his new existence, his complicated relationship with Lestat becomes even more turbulent with the arrival of Claudia, a young girl transformed into a vampire and played in a remarkable breakout performance by Kirsten Dunst.
The film became a major box-office success and helped redefine the cinematic vampire for a new generation.
But more than 30 years later, does INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE still hold up?
IN THIS EPISODE:
🧛 Tom Cruise's memorable performance as Lestat and the controversy surrounding his casting
🩸 Brad Pitt's portrayal of Louis and the complicated relationship at the heart of the story
📀 A look at the new 4K Ultra HD SteelBook, its artwork, packaging, and appeal to collectors
🍿 Does INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE deserve its reputation as one of the great vampire films of the 1990s?
Whether you're a longtime fan of Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles, a Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt fan, or a collector of 4K Blu-rays and limited-edition SteelBooks, join me as I revisit this atmospheric gothic horror classic!
WHAT DO YOU THINK OF INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE?
Did Tom Cruise surprise you as Lestat? Was Kirsten Dunst the real standout? How does the movie compare to AMC's television adaptation? And are you picking up the new 4K SteelBook?
