Is it a poem? Is it a novel? Can't it be both? Award-winning author Sarah Crossan is here to talk about writing for young people, writing in verse, and even how verse novels might just be able to provide some of that dopamine hit that social media does, only without all the bad bits! Sarah's verse novels, including Moonrise, One and Toffee, can undoubtedly be a way into reading for young people (and adults) who might struggle to access more traditional literature. Sarah's writing addresses so many important topics facing society, and listening to her talk about her process was definitely a fangirl/boy moment for us both.

More from That'll Teach You
Irish is cool now - there's no getting away from it. We just need that little push to make sure that our children realise it as well! Julie-Anne de Brún is back on the podcast to give some practical tips on how to enthuse the Gaeilge learners in your classroom and home. Whether it's developing fun challenges and learning history through Irish place names, or bringing Gaeilge to every single aspect of your teaching, Julie-Anne has ideas for everything. We talk about teaching Gaeilge to children who don't have Gaeilge in their family, and how they can actually bring a greater enthusiasm and less fear to the language than those whose parents might have struggled with Irish themselves. Listen and learn - there are so many ideas to bring into your teaching. Most importantly, enjoy the midterm break!
Another budget, another missed opportunity. As teachers take to the picket this morning, Ciara Reilly joins That'll Teach You to react to last week's budget, and how the Government has once again failed to treat education as a priority issue. With no progress on reducing class sizes (which are still the largest in Europe), a lack of understanding of how to manage special education, and a total failure to assess the Department of Education's own data and failings and make positive changes, Ciara points out shortfall after shortfall in Budget 2027.
Magdalena Landziak is back on the podcast this week to help us explore the importance of relationships with our SNAs in school. How can teachers set up their classroom to empower SNAs to reach their full potential? What do teachers need to understand about the role of the SNA in classrooms and schools? As always, communication is at the core of everything - we are all working together and we all have the same goal; how can we maximise our care for our students?
Emergency episode! With the proposed industrial action only a week away, we are joined by INTO Assistant General Secretary Máirín Ní Chéileachair to break down exactly what this means for teachers, parents, schools and other education professionals.
Ever thought about taking a career break? Ever wanted to travel the world? Ever been pressured to show your tattoos on a podcast? Adam (@mister_muinteoir_) has done all three, and he's back with Jane and Hugh to tell us all about it.
