Show Notes

Ian Marling , East Coast US Marketplace Lead at Maurten, discusses their hugely popular Bicarb product which reduces the effects of lactate for 800- 10k runners thus enabling faster race performances and better recovery for further training. A product that's getting huge PR by top elite athletes which will most certainly play a big role in Paris and Gothenburg too. You'll learn about: what it is; its history; distances it's for; training benefits; doses needed; when and how to take it; any risks; examples of efficacy; does it work at altitude; how it compares to lactic buffering products. Episode 115 is based on a new book called, 'The Norwegian Method Applied' by Marius Bakken whose method is used most famously by Jakub Ingebritsen. Its core is the famous double threshold we all have heard about. I've been doing it with my coach for over 6 weeks and really enjoy it. I'm going to go through the basics here for masters runners. It's definitely worth a listen folks as athletes have had huge success from it. He actually did his first double threshold session with Seb Coe's dad in 1996, who was way ahead of his time and Bakken has conducted more than 5,500 lactate tests and used himself as a long-term experiment, ultimately running 13:06 for 5,000m- a record in Norway for 20 years and he competed at two Olympics. Enjoy, share and give it a try.
