⸻ What am I really here for?
In this third conversation of our series with Pete Loescher, President of Radical Mentoring, we explore a question nearly every man wrestles with: How do I know what God is calling me to do? We unpack the tension between calling and ambition, how to discern God's direction for our lives, and what it looks like to understand the unique ways He has built each of us for a purpose. This isn't just a conversation about finding the right career. It's a conversation about discovering how God built you and having the courage to follow where He leads. Throughout this episode, Pete shares his own journey from a successful career in banking to leading Radical Mentoring, how he learned to distinguish personal ambition from God's calling, and why discernment requires prayer, wise counsel, patience, and a willingness to obey when God's direction costs us something. We discuss:
How to discern God's calling for your life The difference between calling and ambition Why ambition isn't necessarily bad—and what it should be directed toward How your gifts, passions, and experiences can reveal how God built you Why restlessness can sometimes reveal that something needs to change The role of prayer and wise counsel in major life decisions Why hurry can keep us from hearing God clearly How to remain faithful in your current season while waiting for what's next What happens when God's calling requires sacrificing comfort, status, or security How to have the courage to obey once God's direction becomes clear
One of the questions we kept coming back to was this:
What did God build you for?
It's easy to spend our lives pursuing the next promotion, paycheck, opportunity, or accomplishment without ever stopping to ask whether we're actually becoming the men God created us to be. Our ambition can be a powerful gift but only when it's directed toward something greater than ourselves. Learning to discern God's calling means slowing down, understanding how He built us, listening for His direction, and being willing to follow wherever He leads.
Pull up a seat.
