What we know about the Jahmal Edrine abduction and rape case, which, need to be clear here, is only off for the moment, leads to some important questions that need to be asked of the folks at the top of UVA Athletics. Namely, how did Carla Williams, the athletics director, and Tony Elliott, the head football coach, not know that their star wideout had been the subject of a search warrant and interview with Albemarle County Police in connection with a reported abduction and rape on the eve of the 2025 season opener?

I wrote to the FOIA office at the University of Virginia on Saturday to request a copy of UVA Football coach Tony Elliott’s most recent contract, in line with my effort to try to determine what the buyout would be, if UVA Athletics were to want to cut bait with Elliott ahead of the end of the deal on May 31, 2031. What the FOIA folks sent me today: a fresh copy of his 2022 contract. *** Wake Forest and Virginia reportedly had an agreement in the summer to go black (Wake) and orange (Virginia) with their uniform color schemes for their scheduled Saturday, Oct. 31 game. Word is leaking out that the folks on the UVA Football side aren’t going to play along, which, bummer. And actually, it’s not a leak – that word came straight from the mouth of Wake Forest coach Jake Dickert.

Eight games into a lost season, UVA Football fans, understandably, are overreacting, because that’s what college football fanbases do when things go sour.
The Family Foundation, morally opposed to letting a trans kid even try out for a high school athletics team, is helping a homeschooled kid in Roanoke County whose parents fear that sending their precious little one to public school would “would expose him to worldviews, assumptions, and educational philosophies that are contrary to their faith” get a spot on a public school cross country and track team.
I’m not the AD at Virginia, which, great news for Virginia there, because the donors wouldn’t give the athletics department a dime if I were running it. Kissing the asses of the money people is an important part of the job. The other part of the job involves being the ultimate person within the football program. Carla Williams needs to treat her job like one of her roles is to be president of football operations. Here in the pod, I tell you how I would approach UVA Football if it were me serving as the liaison between the money people and Tony Elliott.
