The Livy Method: Week 6, Day 43

Liv Lighter with Gina

Show Notes

You ate a little less all week and the scale didn’t budge. That doesn’t mean it isn’t working.

Gina Livy explains why weight loss runs on momentum. The number on the scale reflects what you’ve been doing for weeks, not just the last few days, so a hard week often pays off the week after. With Halloween days away, she also makes the case that the candy on the 31st isn’t the real problem. It’s the little bit every night after. Make a plan, decide whether you’re having it, and try her tip of pairing sweets with a bit of healthy fat to take the edge off sugar cravings.

Somewhere in the middle of any goal, the novelty wears off. Gina gets honest about her own tough week, the wine and chips she wanted all weekend, and how she picks a few non-negotiables when life is too busy to do it all.

Some weeks, the whole goal is just to keep it together. Gina Livy is in one of those weeks, and Odette is coming through a year of loss and big family change. Together they unpack why self-awareness, not food, is the real work. They dig into how beating yourself up stacks a second problem on top of the first, why so many women were raised to believe putting themselves first is selfish, and how to cut back gently, a few bites at a time, instead of restricting your way into a binge.

Maintenance isn’t the finish line. It’s where the work gets personal. Gina Livy and Odette talk about what keeping weight off really looks like for women in midlife: trusting how you feel over what the scale says, giving your weight a range to move in instead of a number to defend, and letting go of the weight you carry that was never physical. That last idea is the heart of Gina’s new book, Liv Lighter, which is now available at Indigo.ca.

Sandra Elia talks about her food addiction and how She gained 100 pounds, while it had nothing to do with hunger. She was eating to numb herself.

Heart disease kills more women than all cancers combined, yet most women say their doctor has never brought it up. Dr. Olinca Trejo, a naturopathic doctor and Menopause Society Certified Practitioner, explains why heart risk climbs after menopause and why women’s symptoms often look nothing like the movie version of a heart attack. She also names the one cholesterol test worth asking for.

When you feel stuck, the instinct is to add more: another rule, another habit, another item on a list of 103 things you’re “supposed” to be doing. But sometimes the missing piece isn’t what you think, sometimes it’s connection.
