Brand X Takeover

❎ If You Want To Get Paid :

In this special episode of Mild Mannered Supermen, we step outside the Genesis catalog to explore one of the most fascinating side projects in progressive music history—Brand X.

As Genesis navigated the uncertainty of Peter Gabriel's departure and Phil Collins faced growing turmoil in his personal life, Brand X became a creative outlet unlike anything else in his career. Free from the expectations of being a singer or songwriter, Phil returned to his roots as a world-class drummer, helping create some of the most adventurous jazz fusion recordings of the 1970s.

We sample music from all four Brand X albums featuring Phil Collins—Unorthodox Behaviour, Moroccan Roll, Product and Do They Hurt? - discussing the band's extraordinary musicianship, fearless improvisation, and why these recordings remain essential listening for Genesis fans who want to understand Phil Collins beyond his pop success.

This episode also serves as a tribute to the late John Goodsall, Brand X's brilliant guitarist, whose inventive playing helped define the band's unmistakable sound. We celebrate his remarkable legacy and the lasting impact he had on progressive rock and jazz fusion.

Whether you're a lifelong Brand X fan or discovering them for the first time, join Mild Mannered Supermen as we uncover the story of Phil Collins's musical escape—a band that offered freedom, experimentation, and inspiration during one of the most pivotal chapters of his life.
