Show Notes
My guest this week is Steve Young (writer for Late Show w/ David Letterman & The Simpsons; co-author of Everything's Coming Up Profits: The Golden Age Of Industrial Musicals & the star of the Bathtubs Over Broadway documentary). We discuss Steve’s iconic work writing for David Letterman (including producing the opening monologues for 11 years) and how it led him on a life-long journey that he never expected: becoming immersed in the world of Industrial Musicals.
We also talk about Steve finding his voice as a comedy writer, the workload and stress of nightly comedy writing, Dave’s Record Collection, the stigma to being an industrial musical performer, how so many people from the punk rock world including Don Bolles & Jello Biafra were also collecting these incredible records, Martin Short's time in industrial musicals, composer Hank Beebe, how Steve felt about being the subject of a doc, how industrial musicals are still being made today, why The Bathrooms Are Coming is perfection on vinyl, the journey of Steve befriending and forming deep friendships with the composers, performers and artists involved in these incredible shows, and more.
So...shh...reduce the din....your Revolutions Per Movie's sales meeting...is about to begin!
