This video explores the opening phase of the North African Campaign in World War II, focusing on Italy’s 1940 invasion of Egypt. It begins with Benito Mussolini’s imperial ambitions and his desire to carve out a new Roman-style empire across the Mediterranean and North Africa. After entering the war in June 1940, Mussolini saw British-held Egypt and the Suez Canal as key strategic prizes. The episode examines the serious weaknesses in Italy’s military, from outdated tanks and poor communications to underpowered logistics and inadequate equipment. In contrast, Britain’s smaller but more flexible Western Desert Force used mobility, naval support, and careful planning to offset Italian numerical superiority. The video then covers the early border clashes around the Frontier Wire, where British forces launched aggressive raids that disrupted Italian preparations. After the death of Italo Balbo, Rodolfo Graziani inherited the invasion plan and repeatedly revised it under pressure from Mussolini. When the offensive finally began in September 1940, the Italians advanced into Egypt but were slowed by poor coordination, supply shortages, desert conditions, and British delaying tactics.Although Italy captured Sidi Barrani, the campaign exposed fatal operational flaws that cost the Italians the initiative and set the stage for a major British counterattack. How Dreadnought Made Fleets Obsolete: https://youtu.be/5zugafO6rKsBattle of Tsingtao: https://youtu.be/-LRHW2E0rO0Battle of Jutland https://youtu.be/BQRT4Hi7nA8Battle of Coronel https://youtu.be/kWAiQrZ61gkBattle of Falklands https://youtu.be/0QzAxaO2LHsEastern Front of WW2 Week-by-Week: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLaBYW76inbX6ubSghjj0fxjMRvShxAUGTEastern Front Podcast: https://theeasternfront.podbean.com/e/eastern-front-prelude-01-the-russian-revolution-and-russian-civil-war/Pacific War: https://youtu.be/MEgIHN63ojU?list=PLaBYW76inbX4kE52CPUvx8gZ7CQyjweEgModern Warfare: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLaBYW76inbX4NYr_WkbaW5KfYwqTAxn08Video: Leif SickScript: Craig WatsonVO: Devin http://bit.ly/3XzSCgV & http://bit.ly/3GUO9iT✔ Merch store ► https://teespring.com/stores/kingsandgenerals✔ Podcast ► http://www.kingsandgenerals.net/podcast/✔ Twitter ► https://twitter.com/KingsGenerals✔ Instagram ►http://www.instagram.com/Kings_GeneralsProduction Music courtesy of Epidemic Sound: http://www.epidemicsound.com00:00:00 - Mussolini’s Imperial Dream00:02:12 - Why Italy Chose Egypt00:03:11 - Italy’s Weaknesses in Men and Machines00:05:56 - Britain’s Desert Defense Strategy00:08:07 - Border Raids and the Frontier Wire00:10:11 - Balbo’s Death and Italy’s New Plan00:12:25 - The Invasion of Egypt Begins00:18:08 - Why the Italian Advance StalledSources: https://docs.google.com/document/d/10HCJLcX5GmgO1M9HwVuvld-s0zqklbQZkRGl6Aqk85k/edit?usp=sharing#Documentary #WorldWar #NorthAfrica Learn more about your ad choices. His was born a few years after the death of his relative Alexander the Great, grew up during the wars of the Diadochi, learned war under Alexander's generals, lived through and fought in many battles. We know him from his wars against the Romans and their legions, but his military career started earlier than that. This video begins a new series on Viking Britain by tracing the rise of the Viking Age and the devastating arrival of the Great Heathen Army in Anglo-Saxon England. It explores how early Norse raids on Portland and Lindisfarne evolved into full-scale invasions, as Scandinavian war leaders sought wealth, land, and power across the British Isles. The story follows the collapse of Northumbria, the submission of Mercia, and the martyrdom of King Edmund in East Anglia, showing how one English kingdom after another fell before the invaders. The focus then shifts to Wessex, the last major kingdom capable of resisting the Viking advance. After the capture of Reading, the Vikings and West Saxons clashed in a brutal campaign that culminated in the pivotal Battle of Ashdown in January 871. There, the young Alfred and his brother King Æthelred faced Halfdan’s forces in a desperate struggle that would shape the future of England. The video highlights the shield-wall tactics, political stakes, and battlefield drama of Ashdown, while also showing that the war was far from over. Even in victory, Wessex remained under immense pressure, setting the stage for Alfred’s long conflict against the Vikings.Charlemagne’s Bloody War Against the Saxons - Verden Massacre: https://youtu.be/Rea-6g1v_JkWhy Was Germany so Fragmented in the Middle Ages: https://youtu.be/EiB8sMHxGqMEastern Roman Empire: Why So Many Civil Wars?: https://youtu.be/SK_yHooLu1sWhat Did the Europeans Think About the Eastern Romans?: https://youtu.be/Qu6NnWj1EZ8Were the Eastern Romans and Arabs Always at War?: https://youtu.be/nBMP6yRAOZgGreat Schism Between Greek and Latin Christianity: https://youtu.be/a6rWf0k8d78How Islam Split into the Sunni and Shia Branches: https://youtu.be/-85dXjgMiSURise of the Cossacks: https://youtu.be/UQ_ocyTRRIECrusades From the Muslim Perspective: https://youtu.be/t8RZtYvW02gEarly Muslim Expansion - Yarmouk, Al-Qadisiyyah: https://youtu.be/r2cEIDZwG5M Early Muslim Expansion - Egypt and Iran: https://youtu.be/baHT2nR5Wr4 Muslim Schism: https://youtu.be/-85dXjgMiSU Third Crusade: https://youtu.be/jCyCSgsFXKQ Fourth Crusade: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Vp_IENiSnA&list=PLaBYW76inbX4ZjR4rodOOSc-zL1orP4hW First Crusade: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkyYjpYLORI&list=PLaBYW76inbX6RqjG027zLO_svn3Fdv7Qa Sultanate of Women in the Ottoman Empire: https://youtu.be/OEzS8D4IidA How the German Empire Provoked Ottoman Jihad in WWI: https://youtu.be/8LCpbgVx9kY Ottoman Battles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txyqS5yuw30&list=PLaBYW76inbX5BKGRPzlqdztQySZmJLjJt Why the Ottomans Never Colonized America: https://youtu.be/lM_Wzt_Z228Why the Ottoman Sultans Killed their Brothers: https://youtu.be/vN7LgUIOAVw Cem Sultan: Ottoman Prince in the Heart of Europe: https://youtu.be/3w9POQMt5jk Ottoman Pirates: https://youtu.be/5jguevSDIuY Turkification of Anatolia: https://youtu.be/JBgq1taoUsY Hashashins: https://youtu.be/vG8qmlKdRjs Christian Schism: https://youtu.be/a6rWf0k8d78 Mos Maiorum: What led to the fall of the Roman Republic?: https://youtu.be/BNWfDWk6ohM How Rome Conquered Greece: https://youtu.be/v5q1rerf-qw Caesar in Gaul: https://youtu.be/LRV185XaMIM The video was made by Antoni Kamerans, while the script was researched and written by Michael McComb.
