Show Notes

X Minus One presents “Mr Costello, Hero,” episode 58, originally broadcast on NBC on July 3, 1956. Adapted from Theodore Sturgeon’s 1953 short story, the drama was directed by Daniel Sutter and features James Dukas, Bob Hastings, and James Stevens.

A veteran purser aboard the star freighter Starclimber grows increasingly uneasy about the ship’s mysterious passenger, Mr. Costello. As the vessel makes its circuit among Earth’s colonies toward an isolated world, suspicion and social pressure begin to spread in this tense science-fiction satire of fear and manipulation.

Old Time Sci-Fi Radio presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned and mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
