With a career spanning over 4 decades across 3 AFL club (Essendon, Richmond, and predominantly, the Western Bulldogs), Doc Zimmerman lifts the lid on life behind the scenes, sharing some unbelievable moments, the evolution of sports medicine, and what it takes to keep elite athletes performing at their best.
They also venture beyond footy, with Gary regaling his time working in other international sports such as at the Australian Open, treating global superstars like Serena Williams and Rafael Nadal.
The chat covers everything from the worst injuries he’s witnessed, to how the game now handles concussion, plus his honest take on many of the health concerns in todays AFL. He also shares his pathway into medicine and what really makes a great sports physician at the elite level.
