Are female psychopaths hiding in plain sight? What does a female psychopath actually look like and how come they're so difficult to recognise? In this eye-opening episode of the Eyes Wide Open Podcast, I speak with Dr Fiona Girkin, a researcher specialising in female psychopathy, dark personality traits, narcissism, manipulation and toxic behaviour. Dr Girkin’s research explores the prevalence and impact of female psychopathy in society, challenging some of the traditional assumptions about what a psychopath actually looks like and how psychopathic behaviour manifests.
We explore:
- What makes female psychopaths different from male psychopaths? - Why can female psychopathy be so difficult to detect? - Can charm and apparent empathy hide psychopathic traits? - How do female psychopaths manipulate and control others? - What is the connection between psychopathy and narcissism? - What are the warning signs of a female psychopath? - Can psychopaths genuinely love or feel empathy? - How does psychopathy affect relationships and workplaces? - Why do some victims struggle to understand what happened to them?
Dr Girkin also discusses gaslighting, relational aggression, manipulation, workplace psychopathy and the darker side of human behaviour. This is a provocative exploration of one of psychology's most misunderstood subjects and it may change the way you think about some of the people around you. Could you recognise a female psychopath if you met one? Watch and decide for yourself?

What if the person you think is a narcissist is actually something far more calculated?
Dr Dani Sulikowski is an evolutionary psychologist, professor, and researcher at Charles Sturt University, Australia. In this conversation we discuss how competition amongst women sometimes involves sabotage, triangulation, manipulation and deceit. Female intrasexual competition is often a competitive reproduction strategy that results in a handful of winners and many losers. Dr Sulikowski reveals the deep layers of manipulation, bullying, coercion and abuse at play. We also discuss the Jason Arday trajedy, narcissism, the impact of ideology in society and the catastrophic outcomes. Female intrasexual competition is far more ruthless than most people realise.
Dr. Peter Salerno is a psychologist, author and noted expert in trauma, personality disorders and abuse. We discuss the genetic and physiological traits of narcissism and the destruction untreated personality disorders can cause in the general population. We talk about antagonism, manipulation tactics, gaslighting and love bombing. We uncover what happens when someone is being abused, from early warning signs to the long-term effects on the mind, body and nervous system. We also unpack the biggest misconception around abuse and why narcissism is only now becoming fully understood.
In this episode, Conor Ryan sits down with former global health Policy, Planning Director and Whistleblower Nicholas Enrich to discuss his explosive new book, "Into the Wood Chipper: A Whistleblower's Account of How the Trump Administration Shredded USAID."
