Princess Bluegreen of the Seven Cities丨Aesop’s Fables from Every Land

A tale unfolds in the island kingdom of Atlantis, ruled by King Grey-White and Queen Rose-White, who are heartbroken over their inability to have children. Their sorrow attracts the attention of a fairy, who promises them a daughter, Princess Blue-Green, but with a catch: the princess will be taken away for 20 years. The fairy warns the couple that any attempt to see their daughter during this time will result in dire consequences for their kingdom.

As the years pass, the king and queen grow increasingly despondent, neglecting their royal duties and the welfare of their people. Approaching the end of the 20-year period, King Grey-White, driven by his longing for his daughter, decides to break the fairy's promise and leads an army to the Seven Cities where Princess Blue-Green is hidden. Despite warnings from his general and the fairy, he persists, determined to rescue his daughter.

In a dramatic confrontation, the king strikes the gates of the Seven Cities, unleashing a wave of magical energy that ultimately leads to the sinking of Atlantis beneath the sea. The only remnants of the once-great kingdom are the rocky islands known today as the Azores, where some believe the spirit of Princess Blue-Green can still be seen in a beautiful blue-green lake. The story concludes with a prompt for listeners to imagine an alternate ending.
