Not In Front of the Kids

We Love Our Kids… But Sometimes We Really, Really Don’t

Not In Front of the Kids

Show Notes

"Parenting is wonderful. It’s rewarding. It’s also completely bloody exhausting.

This week, Nathan and Cara are counting down the ten most annoying things about having kids. From the school run from hell and sleepless nights to children touching you when you desperately want five minutes alone, there is plenty to get wound up about.

We’re talking about the absolute chaos children leave behind, why family holidays cost approximately seventeen million pounds, the mental load of remembering absolutely everything, front seat wars, food battles, expensive hobbies and gadgets, and why bedtime somehow becomes a full-scale negotiation every single night.

Then there’s the big one: the default parent. Why does one parent always seem to know where the PE kit is, what time the dentist appointment is and why the child suddenly needs a costume for school tomorrow?

In The Courtroom, Nathan and Cara get stuck into some of the biggest parenting debates around. When should children leave home? Can you still have a social life once you have kids? Is looking after a pet basically the same as looking after a child? And how do you deal with social anxiety when your children seem determined to make every public outing as stressful as possible?

This is parenting without the Instagram filter. The exhaustion, the arguments, the ridiculous expenses, the constant touching, the complete lack of personal space — and the moments that make you laugh because otherwise you'd probably cry. Because we love our kids.

Obviously.

But sometimes… they're really, really annoying."

Teamwork makes the dream work… allegedly. Nathan Massey is nursing a hangover and Cara De La Hoyde Massey has a bone to pick, starting with unanswered texts, a surprise sleepover at a mate's and a £90 Uber from Essex back to Kent. Somehow it all ends with a brilliant family day out in Margate.
