Gary Talks Physical Media: Umbrella Entertainment's Hatchet 4K Collection

🪓 STAY OUT OF THE SWAMP! VICTOR CROWLEY IS WAITING! 🌲💀

On this episode of Gary Talks Physical Media, we're heading deep into the Louisiana bayou for a blood-soaked trip through one of modern horror's most unapologetically outrageous slasher franchises: HATCHET!

I'm taking a look at Umbrella Entertainment's HATCHET 4K COLLECTION, an elaborate physical media release celebrating writer/director Adam Green's love letter to the glory days of 1980s slasher cinema.

When the original Hatchet arrived in 2006, horror was increasingly dominated by remakes, reboots, and grim, serious storytelling. Adam Green had something else in mind: an old-fashioned American horror movie packed with practical effects, outrageous characters, dark humor, and a terrifying new slasher villain named Victor Crowley.

Played by horror icon Kane Hodder, Victor Crowley quickly became a cult favorite, joining the tradition of larger-than-life horror villains established by Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, and Freddy Krueger.

And unlike so many modern horror franchises, HATCHET proudly embraces its outrageous excesses!

The franchise spans four films:

🪓 HATCHET (2006) – The movie that introduces Victor Crowley and unleashes chaos in the Louisiana swamps.

🪓 HATCHET II (2010) – Danielle Harris joins the franchise as Marybeth, determined to confront the monster responsible for her family's tragedy.

🪓 HATCHET III (2013) – The carnage continues as the Crowley legend grows and the franchise delivers another helping of old-school slasher mayhem.

🪓 VICTOR CROWLEY (2017) – Adam Green returns to direct the fourth installment, bringing the franchise's notorious killer back for another round.

Now, Umbrella Entertainment has brought the entire franchise together in an elaborate 4K Ultra HD collector's edition, featuring all four movies alongside collectible packaging and additional physical media goodies.

But how well do these movies hold up today? Does Victor Crowley deserve a place alongside horror's most iconic slashers? And is Umbrella Entertainment's HATCHET 4K COLLECTION worth adding to your shelf?
