iPhone Duo Issues & Launch Day Review. Bad Display, Hinge, Cracking, Crease, Matte Screen Protector
eSIM STUDIOS Podcast - Tech News + ReviewsSummary
The launch of the iPhone Duo on October 23 has sparked a wave of dissatisfaction among early adopters, with many users reporting significant issues. Complaints range from a noticeable crease in the foldable display to a pre-installed matte screen protector that detracts from the OLED panel's quality, making it appear dull and washed out. Users have taken to social media platforms like Reddit and Twitter, coining the term "crack gate" to describe their frustrations with the device's hinge and display problems.
In addition to aesthetic concerns, some users have reported technical issues, including flickering screens and green lines appearing on the display. The debate over whether these problems stem from Apple's design or Samsung's manufacturing has intensified, as both companies play a role in the device's production. Apple has not publicly addressed these concerns, but internal leaks suggest that the company was aware of potential issues with the crease prior to launch.
The iPhone Duo's design choices, such as the large black bars when watching content, have also drawn criticism. Users find that the device's outer display is limited, and many applications remain unoptimized for the foldable format. Despite the excitement surrounding the launch, many early buyers are regretting their purchase, with some even opting for insurance to protect against potential damage. As Apple reportedly tests the next generation of the device, the iPhone Duo's initial reception raises questions about the future of foldable technology in the Apple ecosystem.
