Ocean Breath: Your Two-Minute Nervous System Reset
"Mindful Moments: Daily Breathing Exercises for Relaxation"Show Notes
Hey there, I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you're here with me today. You know, it's early Friday morning, and I'm willing to bet that somewhere in your chest right now lives a little knot of tension. Maybe it's from the week that's been, or the week that's coming. Either way, you showed up. You chose this moment for yourself. That's everything. So take a breath with me, and let's unknot some of that together.
Go ahead and find a comfortable seat—couch, chair, floor, wherever feels like home. Your spine can be tall, but your shoulders? Let them relax like they're melting into the earth. There's nowhere to be but here. Notice your feet on the ground. They've carried you this far. They deserve a little gratitude.
Now, I want to introduce you to what I call the Ocean Breath. This is my secret weapon for genuine relaxation because it gives your nervous system permission to calm down. Here's how it works. Breathe in slowly through your nose for a count of four. Feel that cool air moving in. Hold it for four. Now exhale through your mouth, but here's the magic part, make it audible. Not forced, just let out a gentle sigh, like you're fogging up a window. Count to six on this exhale. The longer exhale tells your body that everything is safe.
Let's do this together. In for four. Hold for four. And sigh it out for six. Again. In through the nose, cool and clean. Hold. And release through your mouth like you're letting go of something that never belonged to you anyway. One more time. In, hold, and out.
Notice what just happened. Your shoulders probably dropped. Your jaw unclenched. That's not magic, that's biology. When your exhale is longer than your inhale, your parasympathetic nervous system wakes up and says, okay, we're safe now.
Here's what I want you to do today. Pick one moment, maybe after you brush your teeth or when you first sit at your desk. Just two minutes of Ocean Breath. That's it. Two minutes where you're not trying to fix anything or accomplish anything. You're just breathing like the ocean, in and out, in and out. Let that be your anchor.
I'm so grateful you spent this time with me today. Thank you for listening to Relaxation. Please make sure to subscribe so you never miss a moment of calm. You deserve this. You deserve more of this. I'll see you next time.

Well hello there, friend. I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you've found your way here today. You know, it's early morning on a Tuesday, and I'm willing to bet that your mind is already spinning like a ceiling fan on high, isn't it? Maybe you woke up thinking about everything on your plate, or perhaps you're carrying tension from yesterday that just didn't quite release. Whatever brought you here, I want you to know that taking this time for yourself right now? That's already the hardest part done.
Hey there, I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you're here. You know, it's early Saturday morning, and I'm guessing you might be feeling that familiar tug between wanting to ease into your day and the pressure to get moving. Maybe there's something on your mind, or maybe you're just running on empty. Either way, you've made the right choice by pressing play. This is your space for relaxation, and I promise you, the world can wait for the next few minutes.
Hey there, friend. Welcome. I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you're here. You know, it's Thursday morning, and if you're anything like my friends right now, you might be feeling that particular kind of tired where your shoulders have basically become your earrings and your to-do list feels like it was written by someone who doesn't sleep. So today, we're doing something special. We're not rushing through relaxation. We're actually going to sink into it. Together.
Well hello there, friend. I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you've carved out this little pocket of time for yourself today. Early morning on a Tuesday, huh? That's the time when the world feels like it's already asking something of you before you've even had your coffee, isn't it? Today, we're going to practice something I call "The Unclench." It's my favorite way to remind your whole body that it's actually allowed to let go.
