Building a City My Daughter Wants to Call Home | BDC Podcast E18 with Brady Dyer
Better Dads Club PodcastShow Notes
Brady Dyer is a Lower Hutt city councillor, business owner, photographer and governance professional, but the role he values most is being a dad.
His career has spanned entrepreneurship, creative industries, technology, board leadership and public service, including more than 20 years running businesses and working with organisations across New Zealand.
Alongside his professional work, Brady is deeply involved in his local community and is passionate about leadership, family, and helping make Lower Hutt a great place for the next generation to grow up.
In this episode Brady shares how his relationship with his own father shaped the man and dad he is today, and reflects on more than 20 years of entrepreneurship and the challenge of balancing business, public service and being present for his family.
We explore how becoming a father fundamentally shifted Brady's priorities, why it influenced his decision to step into local government, and his desire to help build a Lower Hutt where the next generation can afford to stay, raise families and build lives of their own.
It's a conversation about fatherhood, entrepreneurship, leadership, resilience, community and what it means to build something worthwhile for the generation coming behind us.

***Stop Putting Your Health on Hold. Take the first step with the Dad Bod Reset, our six-week small-group coaching programme designed for busy dads.*** What does it take to stay strong, healthy and active for your kids, not just today, but in 10, 20 or even 30 years? In this episode, Tom sits down with Dave Liow, exercise physiologist, founder of Holistic Movement Coach and father of two, to explore the importance of investing in your health for the long game of fatherhood. Both Tom and Dave became fathers later in life, and having spent decades working in health and wellness, they share a passion for helping dads stay healthy, capable and present as their children grow. In this conversation, they explore: The challenges of moving countries, rebuilding a business and raising a young family. Why strength, mobility and healthy habits become increasingly important as we age. How parents can support sporty teenagers without pushing them towards burnout or overtraining. Practical ways busy dads can prioritise their health without sacrificing family time. Why finding a deeper purpose is the key to lasting lifestyle changes. And perhaps most importantly, it's never too late to start. Whether you're in your 30s, 40s, 50s or 60s, even if you've never exercised before, positive changes are possible. Because looking after your health isn't just about living longer. It's about being able to participate in your children's lives, and one day, your grandchildren's too. Be Better for Your Kids.
