Early Light: Permission to Rest

Show Notes

Hey there, I'm Julia Cartwright, and welcome to Relaxation. I'm so glad you're here, especially right now—early Thursday morning, October twenty-third. You know what? These pre-dawn hours can feel a little tender. That transition between sleep and the day ahead. A lot of us carry invisible tension in those quiet moments, almost like our bodies are bracing for what's coming. Today, I want to help you soften into your day instead.

Let's start by just arriving here together. Wherever you are—whether you're curled up in bed, sitting with your first cup of coffee, or somewhere in between—I want you to notice what you're touching right now. The texture of your blanket, your chair, the ground beneath your feet. Feel that? That's your anchor. That's what's real and present with you.

Now, let's work with your breath, but here's my twist on it. Instead of trying to control your breathing, I want you to imagine you're breathing in warmth and breathing out weight. Not pressure, not anxiety—just weight. Like you're exhaling all the heaviness you've been holding in your shoulders, your jaw, your chest. Inhale warmth. Exhale weight. Keep that going gently.

Now, for our main practice, I'd like to introduce you to what I call the body scan with permission. Here's the thing about relaxation—it's not about forcing yourself into some zen state. It's about giving your nervous system permission to let go. So as I guide you through your body, your job is simply to notice without judgment and whisper to each part, "You can rest now."

Start at the crown of your head. Notice whatever sensations are there. Temperature, tension, anything at all. And whisper, "You can rest now." Let that move slowly down your forehead, your eyes, your cheeks. "You can rest now." Feel your jaw loosening, your tongue heavy on the floor of your mouth. Move down your neck, your shoulders—and yes, those shoulders. They've been working hard. "You can rest now." Down your arms, your hands, your fingertips. Your chest, your belly, breathing softly. Down your legs, all the way to your toes. Every part of you gets permission.

Spend just a moment here in this softness.

As you move through your day, you don't need a full practice to access this. Pick one moment—maybe when you're waiting for water to boil or stuck at a red light—and give one part of your body permission to relax. That's enough. That's everything.

Thank you so much for joining me today on Relaxation. If this resonated with you, please subscribe so you never miss a practice. You deserve this ease. Be gentle with yourself.

Well hello there, friend. I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you've found your way here today. You know, it's early morning on a Tuesday, and I'm willing to bet that your mind is already spinning like a ceiling fan on high, isn't it? Maybe you woke up thinking about everything on your plate, or perhaps you're carrying tension from yesterday that just didn't quite release. Whatever brought you here, I want you to know that taking this time for yourself right now? That's already the hardest part done.

Hey there, friend. Welcome. I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you're here. You know, it's Thursday morning, and if you're anything like my friends right now, you might be feeling that particular kind of tired where your shoulders have basically become your earrings and your to-do list feels like it was written by someone who doesn't sleep. So today, we're doing something special. We're not rushing through relaxation. We're actually going to sink into it. Together.

Well hello there, friend. I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you've carved out this little pocket of time for yourself today. Early morning on a Tuesday, huh? That's the time when the world feels like it's already asking something of you before you've even had your coffee, isn't it? Today, we're going to practice something I call "The Unclench." It's my favorite way to remind your whole body that it's actually allowed to let go.
