Seahawks Respond to Loss & Improve to 3-1 With Win Over Chargers

Welcome to Episode 5 of THE DARK SIDE: a podcast on the Seattle Seahawks! Your Super Bowl champion hosts Derick Hall and Byron Murphy II from the Seahawks’ Dark Side defense join KOMO Sports Director Niko Tamurian to reflect on Seattle’s 3-1 record so far this season.

Our hosts react to the 30-23 win over the Chargers to bounce back after a loss to the Commanders in Week 3. Derick talks about how the season is separated by quarters and the Dark Side Defense is excited to be 3-1 knowing there is much more work ahead the rest of the way. The guys are proud of the adversity the team has overcome so far.

Next, we break down Uchenna Nwosu’s game ending strip sack of Justin Herbert that was recovered by Derick. Hall breaks down what it is like to battle with an opposing offensive lineman for a fumble and how it feels to end the game with a turnover. Building off that, the guys talk about how team chemistry is built and why the entire Seahawks team cares so much about each other.

Our hosts also talk about the 30 total penalties in the game and how to respond in a game where a lot of flags are being thrown for both teams. Not to mention, a breakdown of just how tough it is to defend Justin Herbert.

It’s also time to celebrate Byron’s first sack of the season. Byron breaks down his sack and shares his excitement for making a play he has been working towards all season. Byron also breaks down the difference between rushing with a hand in the dirt vs. standing in a 2-point stance like with his sack of Justin Herbert.

Just like the week before, the guys have a shoutout to give before previewing the 49ers game. Byron and Derick talk about how excited they are to compete against their division rivals in San Francisco led by head coach Kyle Shanahan. For the first time in Byron and Derick’s careers Brian Fleury will be on the Seahawks sideline instead of the 49ers sideline. The guys talk about the impact Fleury has had as Seattle’s offensive coordinator after spending many years as an assistant in San Francisco. They also talk about how talented Brock Purdy is… someone that Byron has been competing against since Texas was playing Iowa State in college.

The win over the Chargers was also the first NFL game ever to begin with consecutive interceptions by each team. At least the first time since 1978 when NFL data like this started to be recorded.

The guys react to being part of such a unique start to a game. They also talk about what they do after the game ends. Especially after a home game, players have free time after their work on Sundays during the day, Byron and Derick tell you how they spend theirs.
