The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes | Old Time RadioShow Notes
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes presents “April Fools Day Adventure,” episode 212, originally broadcast April 1, 1946. This local archival recording features Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson.
An April Fool’s prank draws Watson into an early Baker Street case when Lady Anne Partington reports the disappearance of the valuable Elphinstone Emerald from her wall safe. Written by Anthony Boucher and Denis Green and suggested by an incident in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s A Study in Scarlet, the story begins in London in 1881 and soon calls for Holmes’s careful attention.
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
