The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes presents “The Amateur Mendicant Society,” originally broadcast on April 2, 1945. Episode 173 stars Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Dr. John H. Watson.
On a stormy night in Victorian London, Watson is summoned by a woman disguised as a beggar to a concealed club beneath a furniture warehouse. The original radio story was written by Edith Meiser and was inspired by one of Dr. Watson’s briefly mentioned untold cases from Arthur Conan Doyle.
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
