The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes | Old Time RadioShow Notes
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes presents “The Night Before Christmas,” episode 198, originally broadcast on December 24, 1945. Basil Rathbone stars as Sherlock Holmes, with Nigel Bruce as Dr. John Watson.
On Christmas Eve in 1886, Watson heads out in a Santa Claus costume while Holmes receives an anxious visitor facing a holiday threat. Suggested by an incident in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s “The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle,” this festive original by Denis Green and Anthony Boucher sends Holmes into a wintry London mystery with Inspector Lestrade’s help.
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
